Curcuma (Curcuma longa) belongs to the ginger family and is also called turmeric. It has its origin in Southeast Asia, where it is revered as a sacred plant and is part of traditional Asian and Indian medicine. Curcuma contains over 200 bioactive molecules. The most important ingredients of the plant are curcumin, which belongs to the secondary plant metabolites, and other curcuminoids. Curcumin has antioxidant and immune-boosting properties. It also contributes to the maintenance of normal joints and bones and normal digestive function.
Curcuma micellar is a liquid curcuma extract that contains curcumin in a highly concentrated form. Due to the unique micellar structure, the fat-soluble curcumin is packed in a water-soluble layer (so-called micelles). The inclusion in micelles leads to an increased absorption of curcumin in the gastrointestinal tract and to a significant increase in bioavailability.
