Coenzyme Q10 is also called ubiquinone because it is ubiquitous, i.e. present in every cell of the body. It is a vitamin-like substance and an important component of the mitochondria where it plays a role in the body's own energy production (ATP production). Tissues and organs that consume a lot of energy, such as the heart and skeletal muscles, are therefore rich in coenzyme Q10. Coenzyme Q10 is produced in the body itself, but is also taken in with food. With increasing age, the body's own coenzyme Q10 synthesis decreases.
Coenzyme Q10 with alpha lipoic acid contains 50 mg coenzyme Q10 and 50 mg alpha lipoic acid as a bioactive sodium R-lipoate per capsule. The sulphur-containing fatty acid alpha lipoic acid is also active as a coenzyme in the mitochondria. In addition, this product contains resveratrol from Japanese knotweed, valuable oligomeric proanthocyanidins (OPC) from grape seed extract and curcumin.
