Hydrogen carbonate
Hydrogen carbonate (bicarbonate) serves to buffer acids in the body and is an indispensable component of the carbonic acid-bicarbonate buffer system in the blood. Through the oral intake of hydrogen carbonates, the bicarbonate concentration can be increased both directly and indirectly, thereby improving the buffering capacity of the blood and enabling acids to be removed from the intercellular space (extracellular deacidification).
