Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) are polyunsaturated fatty acids which belong to the class of omega-3 fatty acids. DHA and EPA contribute to normal heart function. DHA also contributes to the maintenance of normal brain function and vision. Pregnant women, nursing mothers and athletes have an increased DHA and EPA requirement. Both fatty acids can be produced by the body itself in small quantities from alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), but must additionally be supplied with food.
DHA plus EPA contains DHA and EPA from high-quality Schizochytrium microalgae oil and is a purely plant-based product. Lutein and zeaxanthin from marigold are two potent carotenoids that synergistically support the function of the unsaturated fatty acids.
